Safety notice
rowculus is an assistance system, not a guarantee of collision avoidance. You remain solely responsible at all times for navigating safely and keeping a proper lookout. The app replaces neither your own attention on the water nor the applicable traffic rules, right-of-way rules, signals, or the duty of care expected of a prudent cox or skipper.
Limited detection
rowculus does not show you every object on the water:
- The app only detects other boats actively using rowculus. Motorboats, sailboats, swimmers, SUPs, or other boats without rowculus are not shown.
- Visibility of other rowculus boats is geographically limited to your immediate vicinity (roughly 1 km); boats outside that range are not shown to you, to protect privacy, even if they’re using rowculus.
- Whether another boat is visible to you additionally depends on the app being open there, location sharing being enabled, and a rowing session having been started, as well as a working internet connection on both sides. None of these factors is guaranteed.
Technical limitations
rowculus’s reliability depends on factors outside our control: location accuracy (GPS), availability and quality of the mobile/ internet connection, your device’s battery level and condition, and operating-system limitations on background tracking (see the privacy policy, section 3.1). Position and session messages are transmitted without a delivery guarantee (see the privacy policy, section 8). If installation authentication is unavailable or unsuccessful, collision warnings and other protected features may not work (see the privacy policy, section 3.5). Collision-risk calculation runs directly on your device, but depends on other boats’ positions being received continuously over the internet; without an internet connection, no other boats can be detected and no corresponding warnings can be issued.
Obstacle and hazard reports
Obstacle and hazard information shown on the map partly comes from users and is moderated. We give no warranty as to its accuracy, completeness, or currency. Always check safety-relevant conditions yourself on the water.
Beta status
rowculus is currently in beta. Feature scope, availability, and reliability may change and should not be expected to match the level of a finished product during this phase.
Disclaimer of warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including without warranty of uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy of the information displayed.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability for damages arising from the use or non-use of rowculus, including personal injury, property damage, collisions, and indirect or consequential damages. This limitation does not apply to damages arising from intent or gross negligence on our part, or in cases where a limitation of liability is not permitted under mandatory Swiss law.
